Abstract

A model based upon the generalized Veneziano model is constructed in order to compare the behavior of the B 5 function with that of a conventional double-Regge model and with experimental data. The model is patterned after the recent work of Petersson and Törnqvist and of Chan et al., and is constructed to describe the reaction K +p → K +p ω at 9.0 GeV/ c. This reaction has been described accurately by a double-Regge model in which the omega is treated as a stable particle and in which the pomeron is ignored. The B 5 model, also constructed for a stable omega and without a pomeron contribution, reproduces, with only a single adjustable parameter, the general features of the data; sharply peaked momentum transfer distribution and smooth mass plots with no prominent resonances. There is a statistically significant disagreement with the height of the pp momentum transfer peak. The assumptions underlying the model are discussed. A modified version is applied to data which have been subjected to a phase-space cut. The model is compared with available data at 4.6 GeV/ c.
