Abstract

The international need for an accepted procedure for expressing measurement uncertainty led to the ISO Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (1995) generally known as the GUM. Unfortunately, the GUM, as the foundation document to express measurement uncertainty for the world, is somewhat difficult for the laboratory staff or most assessors to use. Included in this document is discussion of tools for understanding, reference to related concepts, positions and recommendations relating to uncertainty in measurement.
