Abstract

Abstract We report on the response to a 120 GeV proton beam of 9 cm 2 area and 5 mm thick scintillator tiles readout with an active area of 1 mm2 Hamamatsu MPPCs in pulse mode. The tile response is measured as a function of position and incident angle of a particle track determined with a silicon pixel detector. It shows that ordinary or flat tiles have peaked response while tiles with the photo detector side dimpled have uniform response. The beam test results are in qualitative agreement with Sr-90 radioactive source observations made with an MPPC in current mode.
