Abstract

A large number of studies show that the transient characteristics of a grounding grid in substation is different from that at power frequency. In this paper, a test of the transient characteristics of a grounding grid is carried out. Numerical method was verified by the field test. The method of improving the transient characteristics of the grounding grid in substation was analyzed through numerical simulation, which may provide the basis for the design of a safe grounding grid. It can be found that adding the ground conductors is a good method to improve the transient characteristics of the grounding grid near the lightning rods in substation. Adding the horizontal grounding conductors is more useful than adding the vertical grounding electrodes.
