For a close satellite, the method of von Zeipel is used to calculate the long-periodic variations of order nJ,,,, a;, where n is the mean motion and c the angular velocity of the earth's rotation. With the aid of the addition theorem for spherical harmonics the results are expressed in a most compact form.
