Abstract

The heat flow was determined in four deep boreholes drilled while making the basic geological investigations of the basement of the Carpathian foredeep and Flysch zone in South Moravia. The coordinates and the depth of the boreholes together with the value of the heat flow determined are given in Table 1. For this purpose the results of temperature measurements provided by the Czechoslovak Oil Mines, Hodonin, were elaborated; the course of the temperature gradient in the boreholes and the average temperature gradient for the individual lithostratigraphic units were determined (Figure 1). The measuring element used was a temperature-dependent resistor (a thin copper wire), the resistance of which changes linearly with the temperature.
