Abstract

Terrestrial glass spheres similar to the glass spheres found in the lunar soil samples have been produced by the eruption of low-viscosity basaltic magmas and by a TNT surface explosion on alluvium. The volcanic spheres range in diameter from 2 μ to several millimeters and have smooth surfaces. The explosion-produced spheres are of similar size but have surfaces covered with smaller spheres and angular particles. Both the volcanic and the explosion-produced spheres have analogs in the lunar materials.
