TEROR ATAS NAMA JIHAD: PANDANGAN DARI ORANG-ORANG PESANTREN

Abstract

This study seeks to reveal the views and attitudes of the civities of Pondok Pesantren Mambaul Ulum Bata-Bata Pamekasan and Pondok Pesantren Al-Amien Prenduan Sumenep against terror on behalf of jihad conducted by private or Muslim groups in Indonesia. This is important to answer the suspicion of the West and some of the officials goverment to pondok pesantren as a fertile field of seeding of the seeds of terrorism. The results of this study reveal that the civitas of pondok pesantren strongly rejects terrorism and all other forms of violence. They believe that Islam is a rahmatan lil alamin religion that does not spit violence. Terrorist acts undermine the image of a peaceful, polite and humanist religion. The civities of pesantren proposed two main factors: the oppression of the United States, Israel, and its allies against Muslim-majority countries, and the spread of Islamic fundamentalism, radicalism and extremism in Indonesia.
