Abstract

the phase quilibria in the three-component systems sodium caprylate ethylene glycol-water, sodium caprylate-glycerol-water, and sodium-caprylate-tetraethylene glycol-water has been investigated at 20°C. The boundaries of the phase regions were determined by centrifugal separation and analysis of the separated layers, combined with gross and microscopic examinations. Besides solid crystalline soap these systems contain a large region with isotropic aqueous solution and a region with a mesomorphous phase with two-dimensional hexagonal structure.
