Abstract

Phase pure synthesis of ternary metal selenide nanocrystals (NCs) is challenging and requires special attention to select selenium precursor. Herein we discuss first ever use of 4-nitroacetophenone selenosemicarbazone as selenium source for the synthesis of ternary metal selenides NCs. UV–Visible absorption, powder XRD, FESEM/EDS, TEM results suggest formation of phase-pure CuInSe2, AgInSe2 and Cu3SbSe3 NCs with varied shape and size. The nanocrystals showed particle diameter below 15 nm for CISe and CSSe and band gap in the range of 1.4–2.0 eV.
