Abstract

THE termites (or white ants, as they are frequently -L though improperly called), although they belong to the order Neuroptera, exceedingly resemble the true ants in their habits, and are of almost equal interest. They are, however, tropical insects, and extremely destructive, and although one species has established itself as far north as Bordeaux, it is fortunate that no species has yet been able to do so in the British Isles.
