Abstract

The intervals in fish ontogeny are once more defined and standard names proposed for each. Names such as fry, prelarva, postembryonic stage, free-swimming stage, etc. are discouraged and specific terms — cleavage egg, embryo, eleutheroembryo, protopterygiolarva, and pterygiolarva or alevin, juvenile, adult, and senescent fish — are suggested instead.
