Abstract

Transesophageal atrial recording is a valuable diagnostic tool in differentiating ventricular from supraventricular tachycardia 1,2 and for identifying mechanisms of supraventricular tachycardia. 3 The close anatomic relation between the esophagus and the posterior wall of the atria permits atrial stimulation using an esophageal electrode. Some studies have reported ventricular pacing via this route, but most studies using standard electrodes have found this unreliable. 4,5 We report 5 patients in whom we attempted to terminate sustained ventricular tachycardia (VT) by transesophageal atrial pacing.
