Abstract
In the title compound, [Cu2Cl2(C8H4O4)(C12H8N2)2(H2O)2]·[Cu2(C8H4O4)(C12H8N2)2(H2O)4]Cl2·2H2O, each Cu atom has a distorted square-pyramidal geometry, but the coordination environments of the two independent Cu centres (Cu1 and Cu2) are very different. Atom Cu1 is surrounded by an O atom from a terephthalate dianion, an aqua O atom, a Cl atom and two N atoms from a 1,10-phenanthroline ligand. Atom Cu2 is surrounded by an O atom from a terephthalate dianion, two aqua O atoms and two N atoms from a 1,10-phenanthroline ligand. The terephthalate dianions, which function as bridges between the cationic and neutral complexes, lie on inversion centres.
