Abstract

The heavy metal cadmium (Cd) is an environmentally ubiquitouscontaminant, has a potent teratogen in albino rat(40) pregnant females were used inthe teratogenicity investigation. The pregnant females were divided into two equalgroups. G1( Control): Administered distilled water orally on days 7-15 of gestation. G2(Control + ve): Given Cdcl2 orally on days 7-15 of gestation (at 15 mg/Kg) .Morphological, visceral and skeletal abnormalities were examined in our study.showed a decrease in fetal and placenta weight, increase in the number of resorptions, implantation , dead feutes, dwarfism and hemorrhage. caused significant reduction invisceral and skeletal abnormalities , placentas showed histopathological alteration. These findings indicate that cadmium has teratogenic effects on embryo.
