Abstract

Background: Hospitalization is needed when the patient experiences changes or disturbances in physical, psychological, and social conditions. Hospitalization in children will have impacts such as sadness due to separation, loss of emotional control, pain, uncooperativeness, depression and others. According to the maternal and child health survey, of the 1425 children who experienced hospitalization, 33.2% experienced severe stress, 41.6% mild stress and 25.2% mild stress. Objective: This study aims to examine the effect of drawing play therapy on preschool aged children (3–6 years) with anxiety due to hospitalization during hospitalization at the hospital. Methods: This research design uses a quasi-experimental approach with a one group pre-test-post-test design approach. The sample used was 20 respondents, using an anxiety questionnaire research instrument, interviews with parents of child patients, and documentation sessions. Results: The results of the univariate data test showed that the average age distribution of the child respondents was 4.35 years with a percentage of 8 males (40%) and 12 females (60%). From the results of the bivariate test, it was found that the effect of playing drawing therapy on preschool aged children (3-6 years) with anxiety due to hospitalization during hospitalization at the hospital with a p-value of 0.000. Conclusion: From the results of research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that there is an effect of playing drawing therapy on preschool age children (3-6 years) with anxiety due to hospitalization during hospitalization at the hospital.
