Abstract

In 1995 Ulmsten and Petros first described the tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure as a minimally invasive treatment of genuine stress incontinence (GSI). It restores the pubourethral ligament and subvaginal hammock and has cure rates comparable to retropubic urethropexy. While the success rate is comparable to traditional sling procedures it requires a hospital stay of less than 24 h. The causes of failure of this procedure have not been reported in the literature. We report a case of recurrent GSI after TVT that was then successfully treated by colposuspension. The cause of the failure is also discussed. (excerpt)
