Abstract

In this study a review of several available and proposed methods for designing tensile lap splices was made by examining results of recent tests in which confinement provided to the lap length was varied over a wide range. The results show that the tensile loading bond provisions proposed by ACE Committee 318, Subcommittee B, to replace provisions contained in the ACI Building Code (ACI 318-89), provide the basis for consistent design for all levels and combinations of confinement. The details of the study are described, and the results are presented and discussed.
