Abstract

Two high-strength aluminum alloys, 2124 and X7091 aluminum, were produced by melt spinning. The melt spun alloys were pulverized, and consolidated through hot extrusion. Room and high temperature tensile properties, high cycle fatigue behavior and fatigue crack growth characteristics were studied for both the alloys. The RST-2124 alloy showed good high temperature strength retention and superior fatigue characteristics. The properties of the X7091 alloy produced in this program were comparable with those produced by gas atomization, described in previous research.
