Abstract

Tendinopathy, with histopathological features of tendinosis, typically cause activity-related pain and accounts for 30–50% of exercise-induced injuries. The pathological changes in tendons may lead to ruptures of, for example, the patellar, Achilles, and rotator cuff tendons. Current treatments are empirical and the outcomes are unpredictable. It is thus important to work out the pathogenesis of tendinopathy in order to devise effective treatments. Pathogenesis of tendinopathy can be analyzed as a three-stage process: injury, failed healing, and clinical presentations as chronic pain or ruptures. Restoring normal healing conditions would be a turnkey solution for treatment of tendinopathy.
