Abstract

The study analyzes the interaction and language processes which occur between a three year old child and her parents as they read and become acquainted with a new book. Analysis of parent and child contributions to twelve readings shows the child as an active member of the reading experience, improving her linguistic capabilities on the language of the book and expanding her language repertoire through the language of the book. Implications for parents and educators are explored.
