Abstract

Since Storrs, 1 Ortegren, 2 and Heermann 3 started to use temporalis fascia graft for tympanic membrane reconstruction, this material received worldwide acceptance. There are different ways to obtain and prepare this tissue for tympanic membrane graft. The following is a description of a new instrument which is useful in obtaining and preparing the fascia. From a postaural incision, the temporalis muscle is exposed, and a layer of fascia sheet is dissected with small curved scissors. This instrument, which is shown in the Figure, is then opened and inserted so that the fascia is between the two prongs of the instrument. Then the instrument is closed, and with a small curved eye scissors, the fascia is cut around the instrument. Then the forceps with the stretched membrane is put aside for about two hours. After this, the instrument is opened, and the cup-shaped graft is removed from the Teflon disc
