Abstract
A 78-year-old white woman was admitted for weakness and a unilaterally enlarged tonsil. A chest x-ray revealed bilateral pleural effusions and a tonsillar biopsy demonstrated a malignant lymphoid proliferative disorder. An audiogram demonstrated a mild symmetric high-frequency sensorineural hearing loss with 90% discrimination bilaterally at 40 dB SL. There was no history of previous ear trauma, ear surgery, drainage, or tinnitus. The patient recounted a recent episode of severe vertigo that lasted several hours and then resolved. While in the hospital, she suffered respiratory arrest and could not be resuscitated. What is your temporal bone diagnosis?
