Abstract

• Ni-Pd core-shell nanoparticles were synthesized via galvanic replacement reaction. • At a Pd/Ni atomic ratio of 1:4, Ni@Pd wire-like nanostructures are formed. • Almost complete replacement of Ni with Pd occurs at a Pd/Ni atomic ratio of 9:1. • The as-synthesized particles retain the wire-like shape of the initial Ni crystals. One-dimensional Ni-Pd nanostructures are potentially highly effective materials for a large number of technological applications. Here, we report a method to fabricate Ni@Pd nanowires with core-shell structure via galvanic replacement reaction using nickel nanowires as templates. The synthesis is simple, cost effective and allows the production of Ni@Pd alloy nanowires on a large scale.
