Template Matching Based Vehicle License Plate Recognition

Abstract

Vehicles registration plate, so called Number plate or License plate, is a trailer for official identification purposes. Number plate recognition is a practical application of the image processing technique. That used some methods on vehicle images to read vehicle registration plate. There are many applications for this technology which mainly concentrated on the intelligent transportation system. This technology uses a computer system to read the vehicle number plate from an acquired image. The registration is a numeric or alphanumeric ID that precisely identify the vehicle owner within the issuing areas vehicle register. The computer has colour vehicle image and the output has the plate number of that vehicle. In this paper, it is attempting to recognize the vehicle registration plate using the method of Template matching.
