Abstract

A new way to tailor the crystal chemistry of inorganic solids involves molecular recongnition between two‐dimensional organic templates and embryonic inorganic aggregates. Langmuir monolayers adopted as model surfaces offer opportunities for molecular engineering of the template. The Figure shows one example of oriented nucleation of vaterite under octadecylamine monolayers. magnified image
