Abstract

The point of this essay is to survey the aeolian terms in the Psalms in order to determine how Yhwh was perceived as utilizing the wind. This is accomplished by examining each meteorological reference concerning the wind in the Psalms. Such a study allows seven basic categories of the wind to be delineated: the wind as a means of destruction, a vehicle for divine movement, a theophanic element, a divine agent, a cause of wonder, a metaphor for swiftness, and as breath.
