Abstract

A relationship which allows the entrainment ratio of an unrestricted water-powered air mover to be predicted has been derived. The effect of outlet restriction is also investigated, and a further relationship between the normalised entrainment ratio and the pressure coefficient developed. Both expressions compared favourably with experimental results. The analysis was then applied to the extraction drum and shown to provide a viable method for determining airflow performance. The extraction drum is currently used to ventilate and capture respirable dust on coal-cutting machines.
