Abstract

The general problem of the temperature stresses in a series of spans arose while the writer was preparing plans for a viaduct at Little Rock, Ark., to carry a street over the tracks of the Rock Island, and the St. Louis, Iron Mountain, and Southern Railroads. The type approved by the City and the Railroad Companies was a series of six simple spans composed of girders decked with concrete and supported on solid concrete piers.
