Abstract

The temperature stratification in a water thermal energy storage tank was analysed at different charging modes via modelling and numerical simulation of the transient heat transfer and fluid flows in it. The investigations were implemented varying with the levels of the inlets. The influence of the charging altitude on the turbulence, the subsequent temperature distribution and the accumulated heat is estimated. Ways for efficient use of the investigated accumulator in thermal solar installations are discussed.
