Abstract

Expressions have been derived for the correction of the brightness temperature of a body which is surrounded by radiation shields. Calculations have been made for plane parallel, coaxial cylindrical, and concentric spherical surfaces. Both diffusely and specularly reflecting surfaces have been considered. The error involved in ignoring this correction for tantalum or tungsten may be several hundred degrees, according to the geometry, at 3000° K.
