Abstract
Overhead transmission line is an efficient energy transmission method, and it plays a key role in the safe operation of the power grid. Transmission line temperature monitoring has been a hot issue concerned by researchers. Nowadays, optical phase conductor (OPPC) has the potential to be popularized on a large scale. In this paper, an OPPC implanted multi-mode optical fibers with the length of 10m is used to carry out the temperature rise test in the laboratory. The Raman optical time domain reflectometer (ROTDR) is used to measure the temperature of the OPPC, which is also compared with thermocouples. It is found that the local temperature rise position of OPPC can be accurately located by the Raman distributed sensing system with the spatial resolution of 1m. Compared with the results of thermocouples, the measurement error of optical fiber is less than 1.5°C. Moreover, the results of ROTDR show a more stable ability in measuring the axial temperature of OPPC. It is feasible to implant the optical fiber in the overhead transmission line for measuring conductor temperature.
