Abstract
An overview of the methodology for measuring the temperatures of process tubes in reformers using IR techniques is presented. The major sources of error are examined and advice is given on how best to avoid or correct for these errors. An uncertainty analysis is also given, providing the means for reformer operators to assess the risks associated with decisions based on the results of temperature measurements.
