Abstract

Summary The temperatures in the roll gap in unlubricated cold rolling of aluminum have been measured using a recently designed multipoint temperature sensor. The sensor can measure the billet surface temperature, the roll surface temperature and the internal roll temperature simultaneously. The heat flux and interface herma1 conductivity are calculated from the interface temperatures by inverse heat transfer methods. Tests were conducted at two rolling speeds and the influence of speed can be seen. Experimental temperature results, interface heat flux and thermal conductivity are shown for different reductions and at different speeds.
