Abstract

Superconducting single crystals of YBa2Cu3O7—y were studied by X-ray diffraction over a temperature range from 297 to 77 K. Changes of profiles along a, b and c directions of the crystal were observed, respectively. It is found that the profile of the (001) diffraction has undergone dramatic changes in the temperature region from 242 to 142 K. Meanwhile, there is no observable change along the a and b directions of the single crystal. After the temperature of 98 K, the (007) diffraction peak obviously begins to broaden. The results indicate several minor structural changes of the YBCO lattice between room temperature and the superconducting transition.
