Abstract

The object of this paper is to calculate the partial scattering cross section of slow neutrons from liquid helium II, using temperature-dependent Green Functions. The theory of temperature-dependent Green functions is briefly reviewed. In Section II an expression is obtained for the scattering cross section as a function of momentum lost by the neutron and the temperature. In Section III, the line widths of the scattered neutrons are considered. Finally, the results are discussed and compared with experiment, where this is possible.
