Abstract
The temperature dependence of the nuclear level density parameter, a (T), is analyzed and the effects of this dependence upon the probabilities for statistical gamma-ray and neutron emission from a compound nucleus are studied. The competition between these decay channels, as a function of nuclear temperatures, is investigated. The results show a significant departure from the temperature independent, Fermi Gas Model approximation.
