Abstract

Abstract The observed T 9 dependence of ultrasonic attenuation in Al 2 O 3 is explained in terms of a three phonon interaction. The interaction is assumed to be of the form L s +L th →L th where the participating thermal phonons are peaked about a frequency ≈6 kT / h .
