Abstract

AbstractThe temperature dependence of the thermoelectric power of strongly disordered alloys is studied describing phonons in alloys by a modified Chen‐Weisz‐Sher model. Within this model the thermopower can be calculated by means of Mott's formula. For the treatment of the disorder problem the coherent potential approximation is used. Numerical results are discussed for different values of alloy concentration, number of electrons, and degree of chemical disorder with respect to experimental observations. The mixing of chemical and thermal disorder can cause strong deviations from the linear temperature variation of the thermopower.
