Abstract

The optical spectrum of solvated electrons in liquid C3D8 was measured by pulse radiolysis from 91–131 K and a spectral shift of 0.10 eV was observed. The structured semicontinuum model for electron binding in alkanes was used to calculate the optical transition energy vs temperature and quantitative agreement was obtained which supports this model. It is concluded that the optical spectrum is dominated by a bound–bound transition.
