Abstract

The number average micellar molar masses of the non-ionic surfactants sucrose monolaurate and sucrose monooleate in aqueous solution have been determined over the temperature range 0–70°C using freezing-point and vapour-pressure methods. The surfactants have a sharp CMC and the micelles were assumed to be monodisperse with a single aggregation number independent of the concentration. The aggregation numbers did not increase significantly with temperature. The results are interpreted using McMillan—Mayer dilute solution theory.
