Abstract

Thesis. Submitted by J. R. Merrill. The temperature dependence of carrier mean free path lengths in tin was measured by means of the amplitude dependence of the radio-frequency size effect on temperature. Data on the mean free path length for the temperatures from 2 to 8 K is presented as measured by extremal orbits. These measurements were made for calipers in the plane perpendicular to the STA010! direction. The temperature-dependent part of the mean free path length was found to obey 1/l(T)= QT/sup alpha /. Anisotropy in both Q and alpha was found. Much of the Fermi surface obeyed a T/sup 3/ law, but the exponent alpha for the fourth-zone hole surface varied from 4.5 to 5.6 depending on the caliper and the direction of the magnetic field.
