Abstract

Changes in the surface properties of montmorillonite and its porous structure after the replacement of exchangeable inorganic cations by tetramethylammonium cations were investigated. A thermal pretreatment in a vacuum significantly affects the adsorption properties of tetramethylammonium-montmorillonite with respect to carbon tetrachloride. From a set of sorption isosteres of CCl4on the dehydrated organomontmorillonite measured over a wide temperature range, dependences of heats of adsorption and desorption on the adsorbed amount of substance were calculated.
