Temperature dependence of lattice parameters in solid, smecticB c and metastable phases of TBBA

Abstract

X-ray diffraction pattern was used to measure the values of the monoclinic cell parameters of TBBA liquid crystala, b, c, β and of smectic layer thickness, as a function of temperature in solid, smecticBc and metastable VI and VII phases. An anisotropy effect was observed together with a peculiar temperature dependence of the angle β.
