Abstract

Abstract The wave vector and temperature dependences of transverse acoustic modes propagating along the [001] and polarized along the [100] orthorhombic axis in KNbO3 have been studied by means of coherent inelastic neutron scattering methods. The results are consistent with previous elastic constant and neutron scattering measurements. The mechanism of the orthorhombic-tetragonal phase transition is discussed in the light of all these data.
