Abstract

AbstractWelding aluminum in close edge position leads to non symmetric temperature distributions which strongly influence the resultant thermo‐mechanical loads. Therefore, a major challenge in this welding regime is the formation of hot cracks. A finite element model was established to predict the resultant stress and strain during welding, thus increasing the process knowledge, enabling flexible and cost‐effective process optimization.
