Abstract
The valence ( v ) of Tm in Y 1−x Tm x Se has been investigated by L III XAS. It varies from 2.62 for x = 0.003 to 2.66 for x = 1. In La 1−x Tm x Se, v = 2.74 and 2.76 for x = 0.03 and 0.1, respectively. In TmSe, v is nearly temperature independent but in the alloys, v decreases slowly down to 30 K.
