Abstract

In this work, it has been established that the temperature dependence of the viscosity of multicomponent liquid mixtures (binary, ternary, quaternary) can be represented accurately by the fluidity model proposed by Hildebrand. This model contains two parameters which are found to be temperature independent but exhibit regular variation with composition for multicomponent mixtures. Simple and reliable mixing rules are presented which allow the two parameters to be calculated simply from the corresponding values for pure components. Comparisons between the experimental and calculated values of the viscosity for a variety of binary, ternary and quaternary mixtures are found to be satisfactory.
