Abstract

A new species, Temelucha flavia sp. n., of the ichneumon wasp subfamily Cremastinae is described from Tunisia and Jordan. An affix to the recently published identification key to the Western Palaearctic species of the genus is given.

Highlights

  • Temelucha Förster is a moderately species-rich genus of the ichneumon wasp belonging to subfamily Cremastinae; a definition of the genus is given by Townes (1971)

  • A comprehensive taxonomic revision of the European species was published by Šedivý (1971) including a key for the 23 European Temelucha species known at that time and with detailed descriptions of the species

  • Several new species have been described from the Western Palaearctic region, mainly from the Balkan Peninsula and the Mediterranean area (Aubert 1977, 1981; Narolsky 1987; Kolarov 1989; Šedivý & Schwarz 1993; Kolarov 1995, 1996; Kolarov & Beyarslan 1999; Narolsky 2004; Vas 2016)

Summary

Introduction

Temelucha Förster is a moderately species-rich genus of the ichneumon wasp belonging to subfamily Cremastinae; a definition of the genus is given by Townes (1971). Each comprehensive work pointed out that most probably several new Temelucha species are expected even in the Western Palaearctic region, especially in its eastern and southern parts. The new species belongs to the morphological group of Temelucha species with the following characters in combination: mainly yellow head and thorax, the second discal cell more than 1.5 × as long as the first sub-discal cell, and the second recurrent vein (2m-cu) postfurcal.
