Abstract

Male and female imagines of Telmatogeton murrayi sp. n. from Iceland are described and male and female imagines of T. japonicus Tokunaga from Madeira redescribed. Telmatogeton murrayi differs from T. japonicus by its much larger size, higher chaetotaxy, in details of the cibarial pump, and in having the posterior widening of the female spermathecal duct nearly as wide as the anterior widening. The number of setae on the pedicel indicates that the European T. japonicus not may be conspecific with the Pacific T. japonicus. The effects of environmental induced size variation on morphological differences and meristic data are discussed.
